Who Can Participate in Keep It Off?

Researchers at HealthPartners Research Foundation and the Obesity Prevention Center at the University of Minnesota are conducting the Keep It Off Study, funded by the National Institutes of Health. Keep It Off will test two new programs for helping adults who have lost weight keep it off over the long-term. People who are interested and eligible for the study will be invited to take part in an in-person measurement visit at HealthPartners. After completing a survey and weigh-in, participants will be randomly assigned to one of two programs, the Keep It Off Self-Directed Program or the Keep It Off Guided Program. Participants in both programs will receive a Keep It Off course book which includes information about strategies for maintaining weight loss and receive one-on-one phone sessions with a Keep It Off coach. Participants will also receive a total of $130 in gift cards for completing two phone surveys and three visits over the next 2 years. We are looking for people who:

  • are between the ages of 19 and 70
  • have lost at least 10% of their body weight within the last 12 months — 18 pounds, for instance, if you originally weighed 180
  • are able to walk for exercise
  • are in good health
  • have not lost weight via gastric bypass surgery
  • are able to commit to a two year study
