 Who We Are

A. Lauren Crain
A. Lauren CrainA. Lauren Crain, PhD, is a Research Investigator and Manager of Statistical Services at HealthPartners Research Foundation. Dr. Crain earned her MS degree at the University of California, Santa Cruz, and her PhD at the University of Kansas, where she studied social psychology, with emphases on sustained motivated behavior and quantitative methodology. She is interested in better understanding situational factors that, in combination with personal characteristics, predict people’s ability to maintain behavior over a long period of time, especially behaviors that are likely to prevent or delay the onset of chronic health conditions. Dr. Crain is currently working on research aimed at promoting physical activity, healthy weight and eating, and improving care and outcomes for people with chronic diseases.

Dr. Crain will plan and implement the Keep It Off data collection process and data analysis. She is a co-investigator along with Drs. Martinson (Principal Investigator), Sherwood, O’Connor and Pronk on the Keep Active Minnesota study, a randomized trial funded by the National Institute on Aging to investigate how well a telephone and mail-based intervention can help adults ages 50-70 maintain physical activity over two years. She is also working with Dr. O’Connor on a study funded by the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases to quantify the relationships between the occurence of and care for diabetes and depression. Dr. Crain is also collaborating with Dr. Martinson from the Keep It Off team, along with Dr. Ray DeVries and Dr. Melissa Anderson, to assess how academic researchers perceive their working environments, and whether these perceptions are related to how they carry out their work.
